Heroin dealer caught in a police sting operation was jailed for 10 years. The Bahraini man, in his 20s, was also fined BD5,000 by the High Criminal Court.
He was convicted of obtaining, possessing and selling the drug heroin illegally and also of obtaining and possessing the drugs heroin, morphine and hashish illegally for his own use. Police were tipped off that he was using and dealing in drugs and set up an undercover operation to catch him, the court heard.
An undercover operative was given BD50 in marked notes and instructed to arrange to meet the defendant to buy heroin. They agreed to meet behind a mall in the Nuwaidrat area and police lay in wait. The defendant arrived on foot and got into the operative's car, where he gave him six packets of heroin in exchange for the BD50.
Police swooped as soon the exchange took place and arrested the defendant, who was later found to have another seven packets of heroin in the back pocket of his jeans, the court heard.
Drug squad officers also found two pieces of the drug hashish in his possession.Police sent samples of his urine for tests and the result indicated traces of hashish and morphine, the court heard.
