Prosecutors asked that disgraced financier Bernard L. Madoff be detained Monday after he and his wife sent watches, jewelry and other heirlooms to his brother, his sons and a couple in Florida last month.At a hearing Monday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Litt said Mr. Madoff should be jailed pending trial on a securities fraud charge after he or his wife mailed items, including $1 million in jewelry and other valuables, following an injunction freezing his assets in a separate civil case brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
