Vickie Sheppard and Johnny Lee are both in the Richmond County jail facing charges.
Investigators said they believe the two are tied to a scheme that included bringing homeless men from Atlanta to Augusta to cash checks.They are also being investigated for making counterfeit money and fake credit cards.A worker at the Econo Lodge on 15th Street alerted deputies around two this morning when she found the fake money and equipment to make fake identifications and credit cards inside their room.
Deputies said they paid for the room with one victim's stolen identity, a 68-year-old local woman.Investigators said they think this is just the tip of the iceberg and plan to call in Federal Investigators as they continue to see what else these two may have been up to.
