Benjamin J. Seigler came to court prepared to begin serving prison time, but after about three hours of testimony and evidence, the judge had to delay the resolution because of a dispute over the restitution amount.federal judge on Tuesday postponed for a day the sentencing of a self-proclaimed pastor who admitted bilking more than $1.4 million from thousands of investors.Seigler, 43, of Pall Mall Street faces about seven years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of mail fraud.
He admitted defrauding about 5,600 investors, but most will receive their money back. Federal authorities have recovered about $1.3 million.U.S. District Judge Rebecca B. Smith said she could not legally sentence Seigler until a final amount of the restitution was agreed upon by prosecutors, Seigler and his lawyer.The lawyers said they would work out the issues, which involve only a few thousand dollars of the total, by this morning. Smith rescheduled the sentencing for 11 a.m.
