Eastern European gangs hit ATMs: police
Eastern European gangs hit ATMs: police: "Eastern European crime gangs are behind the latest wave of ATM scamming that has hit Melbourne, reaping them millions of dollars.
Victoria Police says 28 ATMs around greater Melbourne have been targeted since March this year, with losses expected to be in the millions.
Police have found 10 machines which still had the devices on them - a phoney card entry point and a panel hiding a pinhole camera above the keyboard so as to capture people's PIN codes.
Detective Acting Sergeant Terry Ryan from the Fraud and Extortion Squad says people withdrawing money from ATMs should use their spare hand as cover when tapping in PIN codes.
He said where possible, people should use the same ATM so they are familiar with it and would recognise any small differences that could mean a skimming device has been installed."
