Police seized 12.4kg of No. 3 heroin with a street value of RM1mil from a rented house and arrested five suspects
Police seized 12.4kg of No. 3 heroin with a street value of RM1mil from a rented house and arrested five suspects, believed to be distributors, in a raid at Simpang Ampat, Seberang Prai Selatan. The seizure was the biggest in the state so far this year. It is learnt that the house was used as a transit point to distribute the drug, which was packed in 29 packets.
Two of the suspects were brothers and one of them has a criminal record. Also seized were two cars and three motorcycles worth more than RM75,000.
Acting state police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said police had planned the raid for three days before deciding to move in at 10.30pm on Tuesday.
He said the suspects, including a woman, aged between 20 and 40, were caught off-guard when police stormed into the premises.“There was no commotion when my men entered the house. They were just surprised when we moved in and did not put up any fight,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters in Penang Road yesterday.SAC Salleh said that the seizure was a success story of collaboration between the state narcotics team and its counterparts from Bukit Aman.
He said the suspects, believed to be members of a local drug distribution syndicate, have been in operation since last year.“Our men have been monitoring their activities for the past few months. We believe the heroin was meant for distribution in the southern states,” he said. The No. 3 heroin, which is the type taken by drug addicts, is a mixture of caffeine and heroin base. (Heroin base is the purest form of heroin and not meant for consumption.)The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The suspects are being remanded until nest Thursday.
