Two sisters from Colwyn Bay were arrested by customs officers in connection with a suspected £160m fraud
Two sisters who were arrested by customs officers in connection with a suspected £160m fraud have been released on bail. The women, from Colwyn Bay, Conwy, were held on Friday on suspicion of being involved in a VAT repayment fraud. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers searched a residential address in Colwyn Bay early on Friday. Andrew Pavlinic from HMRC said: "Tackling VAT fraud is a priority for HMRC. "People who cheat the system make victims of us all, by depriving essential services of funding.
"It also creates an unfair playing field for those businesses that abide by the rules." The sisters have been bailed to return to HMRC custody on 11 February.
