Police Nab 6 in Chinatown Sex Raid - Chicago News: "owner of a longtime Asian prostitution ring operating out of the Chinatown neighborhood on the Near South Side tried to bribe an undercover police officer he believed to be corrupt, prosecutors alleged on Friday.
Sheng Quan Deng, 37, of 4505 S. Richmond was arrested Thursday and charged with bribery, keeping a place of prostitution and bribery, according to a release from the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Deng's wife, Li Xia Zhao, 33, also of the Richmond Street address, was charged with solicitation, keeping a place of prostitution and pimping, the release said. She was arrested Thursday while trying to access a safety deposit box belonging to the couple.
The arrests of the couple and four other people came as the result of a long-term investigation by Chicago Police and the state's attorney's office into prostitution and identity fraud, the release said.
Prosecutors allege that from 2006 and through late 2007, Dong paid nearly $18,000 in cash bribes as protection money to the undercover cop to shield his prostitution operation from police raids or arrests, the release said. The bribes were delivered in envelopes containing $1,000 each during meetings at a coffee shop near Chinatown, at which discussions were conducted in Mandarin."
