contraband was seized from the baggage of one Nizamuddin, who was scheduled to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur today.
Two major hauls, about 32 kg of narcotic substances, worth Rs 65 lakh in the international market, were seized in Tamil Nadu late last night and early today and two people were arrested in this connection.
Police sources said about 27 kg of Hydrochromosin, a banned drug, was seized by the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from a Singapore-bound passenger at Coimbatore airport late last night.
The drug, valued at Rs 45 per kg in the Indian market, was meant for smuggling to Malaysia where it was valued at Rs 15 lakh. The DRI officials seized the contraband from the baggage of one Ibrahim when he was about to board the flight. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
In another seizure at the Chennai international airport, Customs officials seized five kg of Ketamine Hydrochloride, also a banned drug, from a Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger and arrested him. The international value of the banned substance was estimated at Rs 50 lakh.
The contraband was seized from the baggage of one Nizamuddin, who was scheduled to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur today.
Ketamine Hydrochloride, largely used in parties in South East Asian countries, was banned for export without official documents.
The drug, used to tranquilise animals, was being increasingly used as a narcotic, and recent seizures indicated its rising popularity as a club drug, customs officials said.
